Water Symposium: Distribution System Overview

This symposium presents the wide aspects and varying
operation of public water system distribution systems and
proper management of this critical infrastructure. The
distribution system operator must be familiar with a wide
variety of maintenance activities in order to keep the system
running smoothly. Many maintenance activities will require
advanced knowledge of not only valve and piping operations
but also proper scheduled preventative programs in order to
dependably produce safe drinking water.
This course is designed to provide need-to-know aspects of
often overlooked distribution system pieces.
Participants will learn:
• Disinfection dosing and chemical injection rebuild/
maintenance procedures
• Maintenance guidelines and programs that schedule
long-term expenditures
• ClaValve operation and troubleshooting
• Asset management and mapping with GPS/GIS
• Pressure control devices and zone control guidelines
This workshop will give participants the information and
resources they need to understand proper operation and
maintenance of their distribution systems. Recommended
audience includes system operators, new board members, and
those considering becoming certified operators of a
