Description:

In September 2021, California Senate Bill 552 was signed by Governor Newsom and enacted into law. SB 552 includes new responsibilities and requirements to help small water suppliers and rural communities reduce their risk of inadequate water supply during a water shortage event. In this workshop we will share the emerging awareness and understanding of potential water shortage risks for small water suppliers and rural communities, and we will identify some of the roles, rules, and recommendations to improve drought resilience planning. Related agency stakeholders are invited to attend and discuss regulatory viewpoints.

Participants will learn:

·        New requirements in Drought Resilience and Water Shortage Response

·        Communication and coordination improvements between water suppliers, customers, and government agencies

·        How to recognize emerging challenges to increase frequency, and severity of drought conditions

·        New resources to assess current climate information, and water shortage vulnerability

·        Planning strategies for disaster preparedness

The recommended audience includes operators, managers, and elected officials.
