Operation Certification Math Online
Do you cringe when someone mentions the word “MATH”? Many operators get
nervous about this when it comes to testing. Did you know that by understanding
basics of measurements, we can put this into terms that make each problem a
little easier to work through? Most water works math can be made as simple
as 1, 2, or 3. This means that after reading the problem you can make it into a
1-Distance, 2-Area, or 3-Volume measurement format. Dosing can be made as
easy as filling in two out of three variable numbers on a pie chart and punching
them into a calculator for the answer. In this workshop we will introduce you to
the method of laying out the problem and making it easier to put the numbers in
your calculator correctly to get the right answer. And we will try to make sure that
the answers make sense when you do use a calculator to figure them out. Come
review and practice with us.
Participants will review and practice some of the following:
• Basic math skills, which comes first, addition or multiplication?
• Calculating distances, areas, and volumes
• Use distance, area and volume to understand flows and velocities
• Get comfortable with dosages and dosage rates
• Blending chemical strengths.
Recommended audience includes water system operators, maintenance staff, and
managers and anyone who needs to use water works math routinely in their daily
functions at a water treatment facility.
