Description:

Unexpected events can negatively impact service and system budgets. How do we make the unexpected… anticipated? Start by evaluating how and where our systems are most vulnerable, evaluate how climate change will affect our systems and then plan for and develop mitigation for those vulnerabilities. As we develop mitigation, we should also develop a plan to address emergencies that arise from these events.

Participants will learn:

• How is my system vulnerable? Conduct a vulnerability assessment or Risk and Resilience  Assessment

• How will climate change impact my system? Use the EPA Climate Resilience Evaluation and Awareness Tool (CREAT)

• How will I mitigate those vulnerabilities and impacts? Develop a hazard mitigation plan

• How will I plan for the (un)expected? Develop an emergency response plan and partner for response

The recommended audience includes anyone involved with a small water system.
