Description:
We are inviting you to join us on August 28 and learn about the California Technical
Assistance Providers (CalTAP) programs. These programs are funded by the California
State Water Resources Control Board in order to provide various resources and tools
for public water systems throughout California.
The services offered includes onsite technical assistance and free workshops, as well as other resources. The morning session will include an introduction to the CalTAP providers, services provided or offered and a regulatory update for public water systems. The afternoon sessions will consist of two different tracks designed to assist the public water system professional.
Track 1: Contaminants of Concern | Technical
This learning event provides an overview of key contaminants of concern in local water systems, including saltwater intrusion, nitrates, and bacteriological contamination. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the causes and health effects of these contaminants, regulatory standards governing their levels, and effective treatment methods to mitigate their impact. Attendees will walk away with the knowledge to address water quality issues and implement appropriate solutions.
Track 1: Treatment Considerations | Managerial and Financial Aspect
This learning event will provide insight into treatment considerations for the contaminants focused on in the technical session – saltwater intrusion, nitrates, and bacteriological contamination. Participants will be guided in considerations such as planning a timeline for capital improvements, hiring an engineer, and cost of treatment installation. At the end of this presentation, attendees will have knowledge of the steps they can take to reduce contaminants in the water system.
Track 2: Sampling Strategies | Technical
Sampling is at the center of determining water quality. This training session will focus on how to collect samples that accurately represent your water system and comply with your monitoring schedule. Participants will leave this session having learned about sampling strategies, how to obtain sampling supplies, and when specific sampling locations should be used.
Track 2: Sampling Compliance | Managerial and Financial Aspect
Sampling is at the center of determining water quality. This training session will focus on technical and managerial aspects: how to collect samples that accurately represent your water system, comply with monitoring schedules, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and planning. Participants will leave this session having learned about sampling strategies, choosing sampling locations and plan implementations.
