Description:

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are emerging contaminants of significant concern due to their persistence in the environment, potential health impacts, and increasing regulatory focus. This full-day training provides a comprehensive overview of PFAS in the context of drinking water systems, with a focus on small and rural utilities.

 

Participants will learn about PFAS sources, health effects, sampling and monitoring techniques, and treatment technologies. The course will cover current and proposed federal and state regulations, funding opportunities, and best practices for engaging with the public and communicating risk. Through case studies, hands-on activities, and facilitated discussion, attendees will gain practical tools to assess their systems, interpret data, and plan appropriate responses.

 

This training is ideal for water system operators, utility managers, environmental health professionals, and local officials seeking to better understand and manage PFAS-related challenges in their communities.
