Description:
Develop your sampling techniques and planning at the “All About Sampling” Symposium. Proper sampling is essential for compliance, water quality protection and public health. This symposium track is designed to strengthen those skills and build confidence in water professionals of all levels. Participants will learn how to develop effective sample siting plans, explore the Revised Total Coliform Rule (RTCR) and gain insight into what regulators and laboratories look for when reviewing results. A range of instructors with knowledge in laboratory processing, regulatory requirements, and water system operations will share best practices, common challenges, and tools for improving sampling accuracy and reliability. Participants will leave with a stronger understanding of the technical, regulatory, and practical aspects of sampling and how to apply them in the field.
By the end of the symposium, participants will be able to:
1. Explain the importance of representative sampling in ensuring compliance, protecting water quality, and safeguarding public health.
2. Identify proper sampling techniques for drinking water and wastewater, including chain-of-custody and laboratory coordination.
3. Develop or improve sampling plans that meet both regulatory requirements and operational needs.
4. Describe the key provisions of the Revised Total Coliform Rule (RTCR) and how they impact monitoring and response protocols.
5. Recognize common sampling challenges and solutions across utilities, regulatory agencies, and laboratories.
