Description:

Certified water operators are tasked with maintaining the distribution system to ensure safe drinking water. This lesson, as part of distribution system infrastructure we will cover piping, valves, storage tanks, and hydrants. This lesson shows how infrastructure impacts water quality and provides solutions to common problems. This lesson also presents the water quality changes that may occur as the water moves through the infrastructure in the distribution system. Different water quality parameters and challenges are discussed along with solutions.

Participants will learn:

·        To describe components of the distribution system and how they can impact water quality

·        To describe potential areas of water quality concern in your system, and consider ways to improve these

·        To describe what different water quality parameters tell us about distribution system health

·        To describe and apply key practices for managing water age and quality during storage
