Description:
One of the best ways water systems can contribute to community health is to ensure people within a service area know about water quality issues & how to protect themselves from potential risks. Public water systems are required by law to prepare & distribute public notification to consumers. Public notification of drinking water systems provides a way to educate the public, protect public health, build trust with consumers through open & honest sharing of information, & establish an ongoing positive relationship with the community.
This workshop will provide an overview of federal & state Public Notification (PN) requirements & strategies for building & maintaining trust with consumers.
Participants will learn:
· Federal & state requirements pertaining to public notifications
· Why effective customer communication is vital for small water systems
· Who must give pubic notice
· Who must be notified
· What type of public notice is required for each situation
· Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3 PN requirements
· Form, manner, & frequency of the Tier 1, Tier 2, & Tier 3 public notice
Target audience: water system operators & managers
